Step 1: Prepare the Stain

Before beginning, make sure the stain is free of excess oil or grease. If necessary, scrape away any large chunks with a butter knife or other scraping tool. Once complete, dampen a cloth or brush with cold water and lightly blot the stain.

Step 2: Pre-Treat the Stain

Mix equal parts white vinegar and cold water in a bowl and stir until combined. Dip a cloth into the mixture and blot stain, taking care not to spread it further. Let the vinegar mix stay on the stain for 15 minutes, soaking deep into the fabric.

Step 3: Wash the Raincoat

Turn the raincoat inside out and place it in a washing machine with like colors. Add detergent as normal and set the machine to a gentle cycle. Once complete, hang the raincoat up to air dry.

Step 4: Address Remaining Stains

If stain still persists after the wash, treat it with a stronger pre-treatment solution. Mix one part dish soap and one part baking soda in a bowl with warm water and stir to combine. Soak a cloth in mixture and apply directly to the stain. Allow this to sit for another 15 minutes before repeating the previous steps.

Step 5: Enjoy Your Raincoat

After treating the stain, you should now be able to enjoy your raincoat without worrying about any unsightly marks. Now you can wear your favorite raincoat wherever you go, rain or shine - without any embarrassing stains.
