Start off by pre-treating stain with liquid laundry detergent and warm water. Gently massage the detergent into the fabric using a soft toothbrush, or a cloth dipped in the warm water and detergent solution. Allow the detergent to sit on stain for 5-10 minutes before rinsing.
If the detergent doesn't work, try rubbing alcohol. Dab a cotton ball soaked in rubbing alcohol to the stain, and let it sit for about 10 minutes. Rinse the spot with cool water and then launder as usual.
Purchase a commercial fabric stain remover, such as Carbona or OxiClean. Read and follow the instructions on the container. These products may require soaking the fabric in the solution for a few hours, or overnight. Rinse and launder the fabric as directed.
Mix one part white vinegar with two parts water. Use a clean cloth to dab the solution onto the stain. Allow the mixture to sit on the stain for 15-20 minutes, and then rinse with cool water. Repeat this process as needed, until the stain is gone.
Dish soap is designed to cut grease, so it can be especially useful for tough grease and oil stains. Work the soap into the fabric, and allow it to sit for several minutes. Rinse the spot with cool water, and launder as usual. Avoid using hot water when treating grease and oil stains, as this can cause them to set into the fabric.
