Step 1: Scrape off as much of the stain as possible.
Using a spoon or spatula, scrape off as much of the stain as you can. Do not use a sharp object, as this could cause damage to your poncho.
Step 2: Soak the stained area in hot water
Once you have scraped off as much of the stain as possible, soak the area of the poncho in hot, soapy water. Make sure that the soap used is appropriate for the fabric. Let poncho sit for at least 15 minutes before continuing to next step.
Step 3: Launder the poncho in the washing machine
Once the 15 minutes has passed, place the poncho in the washing machine on delicate cycle. If possible, add a color-safe bleach to the load. This should help to remove any lingering grease stains.
Step 4: Bleach the poncho (if necessary)
If the stain has still not come out after laundering, try using a bleach designed specifically for fabrics. Follow instructions on the bottle carefully and do a test patch before applying bleach directly to the stain.
Step 5: Repeat as needed
If stain still remains after bleaching, repeat steps 2 through 4 until the grease and oil stains are gone.
