  • Clean cloths
  • Mild detergent
  • White vinegar
  • Borax

Removing Grease and Oil Stains from Polyester

Follow these steps to get rid of those pesky grease and oil stains from your polyester fabrics:

  1. First, blot up as much of the grease or oil as possible with a clean cloth.
  2. Mix a solution of mild detergent and white vinegar. Test this solution on an inconspicuous area of fabric first. Make sure solution won't cause any damage.
  3. Dip a clean cloth in the solution and gently dab the stain. Do not rub the stain, as this could further damage the fabric.
  4. Allow solution to sit on the stain for 10-15 minutes.
  5. Rinse the cloth and dab the stain again. Repeat until the stain is gone.
  6. If the stain persists, mix one tablespoon of Borax with one cup of water. Dab the mixture onto the stain and dab dry with a clean cloth.
  7. Repeat steps 4-6 until the stain is gone.

Final Tips

  • Always check the label on your polyester item before beginning cleaning process.
  • To prevent grease and oil stains, use a spray-on fabric protector or wash polyester items separately.
  • If the stain persists, repeat the steps above until the stain is removed.
  • Finally, launder item according to care instructions. Hang up to dry if possible.
