Gather Your Supplies
Before you begin cleaning, make sure you have the following supplies on hand:
- Clean cloths
- Mild detergent
- White vinegar
- Borax
Removing Grease and Oil Stains from Polyester
Follow these steps to get rid of those pesky grease and oil stains from your polyester fabrics:
- First, blot up as much of the grease or oil as possible with a clean cloth.
- Mix a solution of mild detergent and white vinegar. Test this solution on an inconspicuous area of fabric first. Make sure solution won't cause any damage.
- Dip a clean cloth in the solution and gently dab the stain. Do not rub the stain, as this could further damage the fabric.
- Allow solution to sit on the stain for 10-15 minutes.
- Rinse the cloth and dab the stain again. Repeat until the stain is gone.
- If the stain persists, mix one tablespoon of Borax with one cup of water. Dab the mixture onto the stain and dab dry with a clean cloth.
- Repeat steps 4-6 until the stain is gone.
