What You Need
- Paper towels
- Dish detergent
- Laundry Pre-Treatment product (like Spray ‘n Wash)
- Baking soda
- White vinegar
- Washing machine
Removing Grease and Oil
- Use paper towels to blot stain and absorb as much of oil as possible from the bedding, being careful not to rub the stain in.
- Mix one tablespoon of liquid dish detergent with two cups of warm water, and use this soapy solution to spot clean the bed. Blot the area with a damp cloth, then rinse with normal tap water.
- If any of the stain remains, dab some of the laundry pre-treatment product on the area. Work it into the fabric with your fingers and let it soak for 10 minutes.
- Mix a solution of ¼ cup of baking soda, 1 teaspoon of white vinegar, and one cup of water. Use a soft brush to gently scrub the bedding with this solution, then rinse with cold water.
- Wash the bedding in the washing machine according to the care label instructions, adding ½ cup of white vinegar to the wash cycle. This helps to remove any oily residue and keep fabric looking fresh and clean.
Making Sure It's Stain-Free
Once stain is gone and the bed is dry, you can use a few extra steps to help prevent future stains. spray the bed with a layer of Scotchguard, or another fabric protectant that repels water and stains, and cover the bed with a slipcover or pillowcase.
