The best way to remove grease stains from a pencil skirt is to quickly and gently dab them with a paper towel or clean cloth. Avoid using a brush or rubbing the fabric in order to avoid fibres from pilling. For more intense stains, use a stain remover specifically designed for removing grease, following instructions on the packaging carefully.
Oil stains can be harder to remove than grease stains, so it’s important to act quickly. Start by soaking up any excess oil with a paper towel or cleansing cloth. Then, apply a spot-cleaning solution to the stain, rubbing gently. If a spot-cleaning solution is unavailable, a mixture of baking soda and water can be used as an alternative. Once solution has soaked into the fabric, rinse with lukewarm water and let it air-dry.
If you have some time before washing your pencil skirt, it’s best to pre-treat any stubborn stains with a laundry soap before laundering. Apply the laundry soap to the stain using either your fingers or a soft-bristled toothbrush, then let it sit for 30 minutes or so. Once the solution has sunk into the fabric, you can go ahead and wash it as normal.
For delicate fabrics such as silk, it’s best not to attempt to clean them yourself. Instead, take your pencil skirt to a dry-cleaner who specializes in these fabrics. They will know how to properly clean the fabric and eliminate any grease or oil stains without damaging garment.
