Grease and oil stains can be some of the most stubborn and difficult stains to remove from fabric. Luckily, removing them from nylon does not have to be an overwhelming endeavor. Here’s an easy guide on how you can get rid of grease and oil stains from nylon.
Before washing, try to pretreat the stain with a laundry detergent that contains enzymes. The enzymes break down proteins in the grease or oil and help loosen stain. Apply a small amount of detergent directly onto the stain and gently rub it in using your finger or a soft cloth.
Rinse the treated area with cold water, as hot water may cause the stain to set further into the fabric. Rinse until the water runs clear, then blot the area with a clean towel.
If stain is still visible, create a soaking solution by mixing ¼ teaspoon of liquid dishwashing detergent with one quart of warm water. Soak the stained area in the solution for 15 minutes.
Gently scrub the stained area with a soft brush or toothbrush. Use a circular motion and light pressure to avoid damaging the fabric.
Rinse the area until the water runs clear. Blot the area with a clean towel to absorb any remaining moisture.
Mix 2 tablespoons of white vinegar with ½ cup of water. Apply the vinegar solution to the stained area and let it sit for 10 minutes.
Finally, launder the clothing on gentle cycle with a mild detergent. Check the stained area before placing clothing in the dryer. If the stain is still visible, repeat steps one through six until it disappears.
