Removing grease and oil stains can be tricky. The right treatment depends on the fabric, so always check the care label first. Levi’s jeans are usually made from denim or similar durable fabrics, making them relatively easy to treat:

Step 1: Pre-treatment

Mix up a solution of 1 quart (900 ml) of warm water, 1 teaspoon (5 ml) of laundry detergent and 1 tablespoon (15 ml) of white vinegar. Soak a clean cloth with the solution and use it to dab the stain gently. Be sure to work from the outside in to avoid spreading the stain.

Step 2: Scrubbing

You can scrub the stain using a soft-bristle brush if need be. Again, be sure to work from the outside in to avoid spreading stain. Also, be sure not to scrub too harshly as this could damage the fabric.

Step 3: Washing & Drying

Before placing your Levi’s in the washer, check care label to make sure they can go in the machine. If they can’t, hand-wash using the above pre-treatment solution instead. Don’t use hot water as this could set the stain. When washing, add a few drops of liquid laundry detergent to the water, then let the jeans soak for around an hour before rinsing.

Afterwards, allow the jeans to air dry. Do not put them in the dryer before the stain is completely gone, as the heat could set it and make it impossible to get out.

Step 4: Repeat as Needed

If the stain is still there after washing and drying, repeat steps 1-3 as needed. If it doesn’t come out even after several attempts, try using a commercial spot remover, available at most grocery stores.

Conclusion

Grease and oil stains don’t have to mean the end of your beloved Levi’s. With a bit of care and a few household items, you can get rid of those pesky stains and restore your jeans to their former glory.
