Whether you’re a mechanic, a cook, or an artist, chances are that you’ve got more than a few oil and grease stains on your jeans — and they’re not going anywhere fast. But don’t panic! You don’t have to throw out your favorite jeans just yet; getting rid of oil and grease stains can be as easy as following a few simple steps.
The first step is to remove any excess oil or grease from jeans. Using a butter knife or a spoon, carefully scrape off as much of the excess stain as possible.
Fill a sink with hot water and submerge jeans. Leave them to soak for about 30 minutes, then remove and check to see if the stain has been removed. If not, move onto the next step.
Use a pre-treatment spray or liquid such as Shout Advanced Action Gel or OxiClean to directly apply to the stained area. For best results, make sure to follow the instructions on the product label.
Once the stain remover has been applied and scrubbed into the fabric, machine or hand wash the jeans in warm water with a mild detergent. Rinse thoroughly with cold water.
Do not put the jeans in the dryer until you are sure the stain has been completely removed. Instead, hang jeans up outside to air dry. If the stain remains, repeat steps 3 and 4.
