Guipure lace is a type of lace fabric with delicate detailing and intricate patterns. It adds an air of elegance to any garment, so it’s no surprise that many people choose it for formalwear. Unfortunately, its delicacy also makes it vulnerable to grease and oil stains, which can be difficult to clean without damaging fabric. To begin, form a solution of warm water and detergent, such as Woolite or Tide. Stir solution until the detergent is fully dissolved in the water. It’s important to use a gentle detergent, as harsher detergents can damage the delicate fabric.
Next, take your guipure lace and submerge it in the detergent solution. Allow the fabric to soak for about 15 minutes. During this time, lightly agitate the fabric to help dissolve the grease and oil.
After fabric has sufficiently soaked, rinse it with cool water for about five minutes. This will help to remove all traces of detergent residue from the fabric.
When the fabric is finished rinsing, gently blot the fabric with a clean cloth to dry. Do not wring out the fabric, as this can cause damage. Instead, lay the fabric flat on a dry surface and carefully press down on it until the majority of moisture has been removed.
Finally, hang the fabric up to dry. If possible, place the fabric outdoors in the shade to dry, as direct sunlight can cause discoloration. Allow the fabric to air dry completely before storing or using it.
Grease and oil stains can be tricky to remove from guipure lace, but with the right method, you can get your fabric looking good as new. Follow the steps outlined above and you'll soon have stain-free guipure lace without any risk of damage to the fabric.
