What is Georgette?

Georgette is a lightweight and sheer fabric made of highly twisted yarns. It is usually made of silk but can be found in polyester or rayon versions as well. Georgette is popularly used to create Indian sarees and evening gowns.

Avoiding Grease & Oil Stains

Since georgette is delicately woven, it is important to take extra care while wearing and cleaning garments made from this material. Here are a few tips to keep grease and oil away from georgette:

  • Be mindful of your body's natural oils when wearing georgette and avoid spilling food or drink over the fabric.
  • Treat any newly stained areas immediately with a dry paper towel for the best chance at removing the stain.
  • Ensure that all ingredients used for treating the stains do not contain harsh chemicals.

Removing Grease & Oil Stains from Georgette

  1. Take a clean white cloth and wet it with lukewarm water.
  2. Mix a teaspoon of mild detergent with a cup of lukewarm water and gently blot the stained area.
  3. Rinse the area with clear water and use a hairdryer on low heat to help the fabric dry quickly.
  4. Mix a tablespoon of white vinegar, a teaspoon of mild detergent, and two cups of warm water. Dip a clean white rag in the mixture and gently rub the stained area until the stain has been removed.
  5. Use a dry towel to pat area dry.
  6. Iron the area on a low setting to ensure the fabric is completely dry.

Conclusion

Getting rid of grease and oil stains from georgette can be a challenge, but with the right techniques, these pesky spots should vanish in no time. Just remember to be gentle with the material and never use any harsh chemicals.
