Before treating the stain, it’s important that you start by blotting the stain with a clean, dry cloth. Place the cloth on top of the stain and press down gently, applying pressure. This will help draw out the grease or oil from fabric without rubbing it further into the fabric fibers.
Sprinkle baking soda over stained area and give it a few minutes to absorb the oil or grease. Once the baking soda has had time to work, lightly brush away the excess powder. You should see stain already beginning to lighten in color, and some of the grease will have been absorbed.
Mix dish detergent or laundry detergent with warm water and use a clean cloth to gently rub the soapy solution over the stained area. Continue to rub the fabric until stain is lifted, then rinse off the detergent with cool water.
Once the stain has been removed, lay the fabric flat on a towel and press down with another dry towel. This will help absorb any remaining moisture, and avoid setting stain. Hang up the fabric and let it air dry completely before placing it back into use.
