Materials Needed
- Laundry detergent
- Oxygen-based bleach (if applicable)
- Fine steel wool
- A sponge
- Clean white cloths
- Ammonia
- White vinegar
Instructions
- After the garment is stained, gently scrape off any excess grease or oil with a dull knife.
- Pre-treat the fabric with a laundry detergent, rubbing it into the stain for best results.
- If the fabric is colorfast, use oxygen-based bleach on the stain.
- Place the garment in the washing machine on the hottest temperature that the fabric can handle.
- Add some laundry detergent and 1/2 cup of ammonia to the laundry cycle.
- If stain persists, rub the area lightly with fine steel wool and then wash again.
- To remove any lingering stains, soak garment in a solution of 1/2 cup of white vinegar mixed with 2 quarts of water.
- Remove the garment from the solution and rub the area with a sponge.
- Rinse the garment with cold water and dry it with clean white cloths.
- Finally, lay the garment flat in direct sunlight for an hour or two to help make stain disappear.
