The Soap and Water Method

The simplest and most preferred way for getting rid of the grease and oil stains from your cutting board is a good scrubbing with a mild soap and warm water. Make a paste with baking soda and a little bit of warm water, then apply it to the stained parts of the cutting board and use a scouring pad or brush to scrub off any residue. After that, wash it off with hot, soapy water and let it dry in the sun.

Stain-fighting Home Remedies

If your cutting board is still greasy even after using soap and water, you can try some homemade solutions. White vinegar and lemon juice both have natural bleaching properties that can break down oils and grease. Simply apply either one and let it sit for a few minutes before scrubbing off the mixture. Alternatively, you can rub coarse salt onto the stain and leave it for 10-15 minutes before wiping off with a damp cloth.

Vinegar and Baking Soda Soak

For tougher and more stubborn stains, you can do a vinegar and baking soda soak. Mix equal parts of vinegar and baking soda and pour the solution into a bowl. Submerge the cutting board in the mixture and let it sit for about half an hour. Remove the cutting board and scrub off grease and oil with a scouring pad. Rinse it off well with hot water and let it dry in the sun.

Using Commercial Cleaners

For cases when all else fails, you can get a commercial degreaser that can help in getting rid of those really tough stains. Spray the cleaner onto the stained area and let it sit for a few minutes before scrubbing with a brush or scouring pad. Rinse it with hot water and let it dry in the sun. For surfaces that cannot be soaked, you can use a damp cloth instead.
