Step 1: Blot Up Excess Liquid

Before you start treating stain, use a dry paper towel, cloth or brush to gently remove any excess liquid. Be careful to only dab the area, never scrub it, as it can spread the stain and damage the fibers of the canvas.

Step 2: Apply a Detergent Solution

Mix a solution of mild liquid detergent and warm water, and apply it directly to the stain. Rub the solution into fabric using your fingers, being careful to not disrupt the fibers of the fabric. This will start to break down the oils in the stain.

Step 3: Rinse Stain

Rinse the stained area with warm water, taking care to remove any remaining soap residue from the fabric. Pat (don't rub!) the area with a towel to remove excess moisture.

Step 4: Apply Absorbent Powder

Sprinkle an absorbent powder, such as cornstarch or baking soda, on top of the stain. Allow it to sit for at least an hour, then vacuum it away. This will help to absorb any residual oil or grease still left on the fabric.

Step 5: Wash the Fabric

Finally, it's time to machine wash the fabric. If possible, use a special detergent for greasy or oily stains. Follow the instructions on the label for best results.
