Whether you're an avid mechanic, professional chef, or simply love eating out at greasy spoon restaurants, dealing with grease and oil stains on your clothes is inevitable. Thankfully, it's easy to clean these unsightly smudges with a few simple steps.
Removing Grease and Oil Stains from Collared Shirts
- For immediate removal of any fresh spots, use a paper towel to blot stain and absorb as much oil as possible.
- Apply a small amount of dishwashing liquid directly to the stain and rub it in gently.
- Let the shirt soak in cold water for up to 30 minutes.
- Wash the shirt in warm water with an enzyme detergent designed for grease and oil.
- Air-dry the shirt or tumble dry with low heat.
Additional Tips
- Sprinkle a generous amount of baking soda on the stain for additional cleaning power. Let the baking soda sit for at least 15 minutes before washing.
- If the stain persists after washing, repeat process until the stain is completely gone.
- If the stain is oil-based, you may want to try using a spot treatment with mineral spirits. Test solvent on a hidden area of the fabric to avoid damaging material.
