First, try to remove as much of the grease and oil as possible. To do this, gently scrape the stained area with a butter knife or spoon. Make sure not to press too hard, as you don’t want to damage the fabric.
Once you’re done scraping the stain, fill a sink with warm water and add some laundry detergent. Submerge the garment in mixture and let it soak for at least one hour. This will help loosen up the grease and oil, making it easier to remove.
After it’s had time to soak, wash the garment in your washing machine using hottest water setting. Make sure to inspect the item after it’s finished washing to make sure the stain is gone. If it’s still there, repeat the process.
If the stain is still visible after washing, you may need to spot clean it by hand. Mix together equal parts white vinegar and water and apply it to the stain using a sponge. Let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing it off with cold water.
For tougher stains, mix together baking soda, salt and water and apply it to the stain. Let it sit for 15-20 minutes before wiping it off with a damp cloth. This should take care of any remaining grease and oil.
If all else fails, you may need to use a commercial stain remover. Simply apply remover to the stained area and blot it with a clean cloth. Let it sit for a few minutes then rinse it off with cold water. The stain should be gone!
