What You Need

  • a bottle of dishwashing liquid
  • baking soda
  • dawn soap
  • a bowl of white vinegar
  • a soft-bristled brush or toothbrush
  • paper towels
  • an old towel
  • a clothes iron

Step 1: Blot the Stain with Paper Towels

If the grease or oil stain is still wet, blot it with a few thick layers of paper towels. Pressing too hard might cause the stain to spread, so use gentle, light pressure instead. Keep blotting until you’ve absorbed all the excess oil/grease.

Step 2: Apply Dishwashing Liquid

Put a few drops of dishwashing liquid onto the stain, then lightly rub it into the fabric with your fingers. This helps in breaking down the grease and oil molecules, making them easier to remove.

Step 3: Soak Fabric

Mix baking soda, dawn soap and white vinegar in a bowl to make an effective cleaning solution. Soak the fabric in this mixture for at least 30 minutes. The vinegar and baking soda will help reduce the stain significantly.

Step 4: Brush Away the Stain

Once the soak is done, brush away the stain with a soft-bristled brush or toothbrush. Brush gently to avoid ruining the fabric. Rinse the fabric with cool water and squeeze it to get rid of cleaning solution.

Step 5: Iron the Fabric

Lay an old towel on a flat surface, then place the fabric on top. Cover the fabric with another towel, then press an iron on the highest heat setting on it. Move iron in circular motions and constantly check if the stain is gone. Once the stain is removed, turn the fabric over and repeat the same process.
