Removing Grease and Oil Stains from Baking Dishes

The first step is to fill your dish with hot water. Add a few drops of dish soap and swish water around with your hand. Let the dish soak in the soapy water for 15-20 minutes.

Once the baking dish has soaked, use a scrub brush or sponge to scrub away any lingering grease or oil stains. If stains have been there for a while, try adding a bit of baking soda to the soapy water to help loosen them. Work the scrub brush or sponge over the entire surface, making sure to reach all the little corners and crevices.

Rinse dish with clean, hot water and then completely dry it with a towel. Make sure you’ve removed all the soapy residue and that the dish is completely dry before putting it away.

Extra Tips for Cleaning Grease and Oil Stains

  • If the dish is extra dirty, try adding a half cup of vinegar to the soapy water before scrubbing.
  • If a greasy film remains after scrubbing, try wiping dish down with rubbing alcohol.
  • For stubborn stains, let the dish soak overnight in a mixture of hot water, dish soap and baking soda.
  • If all else fails, try a commercial oven cleaner. Be sure to wear gloves and follow the instructions carefully.
