Before you start cleaning, it is important to test the material to ensure it will not be damaged by cleaning supplies. Select an inconspicuous area of the shoe, such as the inside of shoe, and apply a small amount of liquid detergent. Allow liquid to sit for a few minutes, then rinse and check to see if there has been any discoloration or other damage.
If the material has passed the test, the next step is to submerge the shoe in a mixture of warm water and liquid detergent. Allow the shoe to soak for at least 15 minutes. This will help loosen up the grease and oil.
Once shoe has soaked for a few minutes, use a toothbrush to scrub stain in a gentle, circular motion. The toothbrush should be just damp, not dripping wet. Continue scrubbing until the stain has been removed.
After stain has been removed, rinse the shoe with warm water and allow to dry completely. Avoid using hot water as this can damage the material.
If the stain is still visible after the first few steps, create a paste of baking soda and water, and use a damp cloth to rub the paste into the stained area. Allow it to sit for several minutes, then rinse with warm water and allow to air dry.
Cleaning grease and oil stains from ASICS shoes can be a challenge, but if you follow the steps outlined above, you should be able to remove most stubborn stains.
