The soft, airy feel of Angora fabric makes it the ideal choice for many different types of clothing and home accessories. Unfortunately, Angora fabric is also sensitive to grease and oil spills, which can quickly render a garment unwearable. However, all is not lost; with the right cleaning techniques, you can have your beloved Angora garments looking like new again in no time.

Step 1: Blot the Stain Immediately

The longer a grease or oil stain is left on Angora fabric, the more difficult it will be to remove. As soon as you notice the stain, use a clean cloth or paper towel to blot away as much of liquid as possible. Use a pressing motion, rather than rubbing or scrubbing the fabric, to prevent further damage to fibers.

Step 2: Pre-Treat with a Detergent Solution

Mix a solution of water and a mild detergent, such as dish soap. Dab the solution lightly onto the stained area with a rag, then gently massage the fabric with your fingertips. Be sure to rinse the fabric with cold water after massaging to remove any traces of detergent.

Step 3: Apply a Spot Cleaner

If the stain remains, apply a small amount of a spot cleaner specifically designed for Angora fabrics. Spread the cleaner as evenly as possible over the area, then let it sit for a few minutes before blotting or patting at the stain with a damp cloth. Once the stain has been removed, rinse the fabric with cold water.

Step 4: Use Vinegar and Water Solution

If you notice any stubborn residue left behind from the spot cleaner, mix together a solution of ¼ cup white vinegar and 4 cups warm water. Soak a cloth in the solution, then dab it onto the residue until it begins to dissipate. Rinse the area again with cold water once residue is gone.

Step 5: Hang Dry

Once you’ve finished treating stain, hang the garment to dry in a well-ventilated area. Do not tumble dry, as heat may cause the stain to set. This last step is important since Angora fabric is prone to shrinkage.
