The most straightforward way to tackle grease and oil stains on alpaca fabrics is with a mixture of dish soap and water. Start by mixing 1 teaspoon of liquid dish detergent with 2 cups of warm water. Soak a cloth in the solution and dab it onto the stain, gently working from the outside in to avoid spreading it. Rinse cloth with clean water and continue blotting until stain fades away. Let the fabric air-dry.
If the grease and oil spots remain after using the dish soap and water method, then try using rubbing alcohol. Simply use an eyedropper to apply some of the rubbing alcohol directly onto the stain and let it soak in for a few minutes. Then take a soft-bristled brush or toothbrush and gently scrub the area until the stain fades away. Finally, rinse the fabric and hang it up to dry.
If all else fails, you can try using a commercial carpet cleaner, such as Woolite. Before using, check the product label and make sure it's recommended for alpaca fabrics. Follow the instructions on the bottle and apply a small amount of the cleaner directly onto the stain. Let it sit for 10 minutes and then use a soft-bristled brush to scrub away the stain. Finally, rinse fabric with water and hang it up to dry.
It's always best to act as soon as possible when a grease or oil stain occurs on alpaca. However, there are a few things you can do in advance to prevent such problems from happening. Be sure to avoid contact with cooking oils and other such substances, as this is a common source of greasy stains. Additionally, apply a stain-resistant protective spray or fabric sealant before wearing garment or using the fabric.
