Before you get to work on the stain, you’ll want to pre-treat it first. Start by wetting the stain with room temperature water. Then, apply a few drops of dish soap to the affected area and gently rub it into the fabric. This will help to break down the proteins in the gravy.
Once the dish soap has been worked into the fabric, sprinkle a generous amount of baking soda over stain. You may need to add more baking soda depending on the size of the stain. Allow the baking soda to sit for approximately 10 minutes. This will help to draw grease out of the fabric and absorb some of the remaining moisture.
Using a dry toothbrush, scrub away at stain for a few minutes. This will help to further break down the grease and remove some of the remaining particles. Once you have scrubbed away as much as you can, rinse the fabric with cold water. Make sure to check fabric for any remaining residue before moving on to the next step.
Now you can apply a stain remover to the garment. Make sure to test the product on an inconspicuous part of fabric first. Apply an even amount of the product to the stain and allow it to sit for a few minutes. After a few minutes, use a dry cloth to blot away the solution and any remaining residue.
Finally, launder item according to the fabric’s instructions. This will help to get rid of any remaining residue and restore your workwear to its original state.
