Step 1: Blotting the Stain

Gently blot stained area with a towel or paper towel to remove as much of grease and liquid as possible. Don't rub or scrub at the stain or you may spread it out. It may be helpful to press down on the stain with a spoon to help soaks up the liquid.

Step 2: Treating Stain with a Cleaning Solution

Mix a cleaning solution of one tablespoon of dishwashing liquid and two cups of warm water in a bowl. Lightly dip a sponge or cloth into the solution and dab at stained area. Be sure not to scrub the stain, which may cause it to spread. Blot with a dry towel to remove the cleaning solution.

Step 3: Using Ammonia for Stubborn Stains

It may take more than one try to remove the gravy stain from wool fabric; if more cleaning is necessary, use a solution of three tablespoons of ammonia and one liter of warm water. Use the same dabbing technique described in Step 2 to apply the solution. Again, blot with a dry towel to remove the cleaning solution. Do not rinse off as this may cause further staining.

Step 4: Laundering the Wool Item

Once the stain has been removed, launder the item according to the instructions on the care label. It is important to read the label carefully to avoid damaging the garment. Once the item is dry, check to make sure the stain has completely come out before wearing.
