Gravy is one of the hardiest substances – it seeps right into the fabric without leaving any trace of its presence. This makes cleaning a gravy stain from your tuxedo quite a challenging task. But don't worry – here are some tips to help you get rid of those stubborn stains.
If the stain is fresh, you'll need to act fast. Grab your trusty bottle of dishwashing liquid and squirt a generous amount onto the affected area. Make sure to work it into the fabric using gentle circular motions. Let it sit for a few minutes before rinsing thoroughly with cool water.
If the gravy has been allowed to sit for a while, it could have already set into fabric. In this case, you'll need to use a mixture of baking soda, white vinegar, and lukewarm water. Simply mix the ingredients together and apply it onto the stained area. Leave it for a few minutes then rinse thoroughly.
If above methods didn't work, you can try using an enzyme-based laundry detergent as a spot treatment. Apply the detergent onto stained area following the instructions on the packaging. Then proceed with a regular machine wash cycle. It's important to note, however, that you may need to repeat process several times until the stain has completely gone.
Cleaning gravy stains from a tuxedo isn't always easy but with the right approach, you can make sure that it won't be a problem any longer. When in doubt, it's always better to consult a professional dry cleaner.
