As soon as you notice the stain, it’s important to pre-treat it. Place the stained area of the garment under cold running water, and take care to directly rinse off the affected area only. Do not rub the garment or use warm water, as this will further set the stain.
You may then apply mild soap to the affected area. Use a small bit of liquid laundry detergent, dishwashing liquid or shampoo (avoid any products containing bleach). Work soap in gently, and never scrub the stain. Then re-rinse the garment with cool water.
Alternatively, you can make a paste out of lemon juice, salt, and water. Apply the paste to the area and then dampen a white cloth with hot water. Place the cloth over the stain and press down with a warm iron. Be sure that the cloth is kept between the garment and the iron and continue to iron until the stain has been removed. Again, do not rub the fabric.
Once the stain has been removed, thoroughly rinse the garment in cool water to remove any soap or paste residue. If any mark remains, it may be necessary to repeat the process. When you’re satisfied that stain is gone, launder the tunic in the hottest setting the fabric will allow.
