Gravy stains may look worrisome, but they’re actually quite easy to remove. All you need to get rid of them is some hand soap and water.

Step 1: Blot the Stain Immediately

As soon as you notice a gravy stain, grab a paper towel or clean cloth and press down gently on the stained area. This will help absorb as much of gravy as possible and reduce the amount of cleaning you’ll need to do later.

Step 2: Apply Hand Soap and Water

Mix a drop of hand soap with warm water in a small bowl. Then, dip a clean cloth into sudsy solution and, working from the outside towards the center of the stain, dab the fabric with the cloth.

Continue dabbing until the stain disappears. If necessary, use a soft-bristled brush or toothbrush to help loosen any stubborn bits of gravy.

Step 3: Rinse

Rinse the top with clean, lukewarm water, then blot the stained area with a dry cloth or paper towel.

Step 4: Let It Dry

Hang your top on a clothesline or lay it flat on a towel and let it air-dry completely.

Optional: Treat with Vinegar

If the stain persists after following the above steps, try treating the area with white vinegar. Soak a clean cloth in white vinegar, then gently blot stained area with the cloth. Rinse the top with lukewarm water and repeat as necessary until the stain is gone.

Once the stain is gone, hang the top up to dry and voila – the gravy stain is no more.
