Remove gravy stains from ties as soon as possible. The longer it sits, the more difficult it will be to remove. Begin with a test spot on a hidden area of the garment before proceeding with instructions below.

What You Will Need

  • White cloth
  • Mild detergent
  • Clean cloth
  • Iron

Instructions

  1. Analyze stain to determine if it is wet or dry. If gravy is wet, blot up as much of the liquid as possible with a clean white cloth to avoid spreading the stain.
  2. Apply a mild detergent directly onto stain. Rub gently with your fingers until a lather forms. Rinse thoroughly.
  3. Blot the tie dry using a clean cloth. Allow it to air dry if possible, or use an iron set to low heat on a flat surface to finish drying.

Tips

  • Always blot instead of rubbing the stain when you remove gravy.
  • If the gravy is dry, use a clean cloth and brush to break up and lift the stain from the fabric.
  • If the stain remains after the initial cleaning, repeat the process until it is completely gone.
