If the gravy stain is still wet, blot as much of the excess gravy as you can with a clean white cloth. Do not scrape or rub the stain as this will only push it further into the fabric.
Once you have blotted the excess gravy, pre-treat the stain with an oxygen-activated stain remover or oxy-booster detergent. Allow the pre-treater or detergent to sit on the stain for at least 15 minutes.
Fill a bucket or sink with cool water and add detergent. Gently wash the sweatshirt in the soapy water and then rinse it well with cool water. Remove any soap residue from fabric by squeezing it between two towels.
If the stain remains after washing, carefully apply a few drops of hydrogen peroxide, or an oxygen-based bleach, directly onto the stain. Allow the peroxide or bleach to sit on the fabric for 30 minutes and then rinse garment with cold water.
To avoid setting the stain, air dry the garment and double check to make sure the stain has been removed completely.
