The key to removing gravy stains from a sundress is acting fast. The longer you wait before dealing with the stain, harder it will be to remove. So, as soon as you notice that something’s amiss, start by blotting up any excess liquid with a cloth.
Next, you’ll want to pre-treat the stain. Mix together a teaspoon of liquid dish or laundry detergent with a 1/4 cup of warm water. Gently rub solution into the stained area and use a clean cloth to dab it up. Make sure not to rub or scrub too hard; you don’t want to damage the fabric.
Once you’ve treated the stain, it’s time to throw your sundress in the wash. Before you do, however, make sure to check the garment label for washing instructions. Most sundresses are machine washable, but some require hand-washing or dry cleaning only. If you can machine wash, set your washing machine to the delicate cycle and use cold water. You might also consider adding a color-safe bleach to the load.
Once your sundress has finished washing, take it out of the machine and check the stained area one last time. If the stain is still visible, you may need to repeat the pretreating and washing process.
With a little bit of elbow grease, you should be able to remove your gravy stain in no time. Just make sure to act fast and follow directions outlined above. Good luck!
