Gravy stains are very common, but with right approach, they don't have to ruin your suit. The key to getting rid of gravy stains is to act quickly and to use the right cleaning solutions and techniques.

Step 1: Blot Up Excess Gravy With a Paper Towel

When you discover that there is a gravy stain on your suit, the first thing you need to do is to blot up as much of the excess gravy as you can using a paper towel or cloth.

Place the towel over stain and gently press it onto the fabric. Repeat this a few times until most of the gravy has been absorbed. Make sure you don't rub the stain into the fabric – this will just make it worse.

Step 2: Pretreat the Stain with a Mild Detergent

Once you have blotted up as much of the gravy as possible, it is time to pretreat the stain. Mix a small amount of liquid dish soap with some warm water and stir until it forms a sudsy solution.

Using a clean, damp sponge, apply detergent solution directly to the stain. Gently agitate the sponge over the stain to help break up grease and lift it out of the fabric.

Step 3: Soak Suit

Once you have pretreated the stain, it is time to soak the suit. Fill a sink or bucket with cool water and add a few drops of laundry detergent. Place the suit into the water and allow it to soak for at least 30 minutes.

Make sure to check on the stain every 5-10 minutes and agitate the fabric to help break up the stain. This will help loosen the grease and make it easier to remove.

Step 4: Rinse and Machine Wash

Once suit has finished soaking, it is time to rinse it off. Place the suit in a sink or bucket filled with clean, cool water and swish it around before draining dirty water out. Repeat this process a few times until the water is no longer cloudy.

When the suit is free of suds and the stain, it is time to throw it in the washing machine. Select the gentle or delicate cycle and use a mild laundry detergent. Make sure the temperature of the water is cool and set the machine to correct cycle.

Once wash cycle is done, you can hang the suit up to dry.
