The type of fabric your sleep pants are made from will determine the best method for removing the gravy stain. Natural fabrics like cotton, linen, and rayon will usually respond well to a vinegar and water solution, while synthetic fibers like polyester or nylon should be treated with a detergent or enzyme cleaner.

Removing Greasy Gravy Stains from Natural Fabrics with Vinegar

If your sleep pants are made from a natural fiber, you can start by blotting up as much of the stain as possible using a clean cloth. Once you’ve blotted up as much as you can, mix one part white vinegar with two parts cold water in a bowl. Then dip a cloth into the solution and dab the stain with it until it begins to fade.

Once you’ve treated the stain with the vinegar solution, rinse the area with cold water and launder sleep pants as usual.

Removing Greasy Gravy Stains from Synthetic Fabrics with Detergent

If your sleep pants are made from a synthetic fabric, you can start by blotting up as much of the stain as possible using a clean cloth. Once you’ve blotted up the excess gravy, apply a small amount of detergent to the stain and rub it gently with your fingertips. You can also use an enzyme cleaner, which is specifically designed to break down grease and other proteins.

Once you’ve treated the stain with detergent or cleaner, rinse the area with cold water and launder the sleep pants as usual.

Tips for Avoiding Greasy Gravy Stains on Your Clothes

While removing gravy stains can be tricky, it’s always best to avoid them in the first place. The next time you make a meal with gravy, consider using a bib to protect your clothes and wiping up grease spills right away, before they have a chance to set in.
