The hardness of the stain will determine which supplies you need to gather. You will need either a bottle of vinegar or a bar of laundry soap, a bucket, warm water, and a cloth. You may also want to wear gloves to protect your hands.
If the stain is still fresh, your goal is to blot up as much of the excess liquid as possible. Do not rub, as this will only push the liquid deeper into the fabric. Instead, gently press a cloth against the area to absorb the liquid.
To make your cleaning solution, fill a bucket with lukewarm water. Add 1/4 cup of either vinegar or laundry soap. Stir until the liquid is fully mixed. Submerge area affected by stain. Allow it to soak for approximately 30 minutes. Rinse area with cold water afterward.
If stain has been left for an extended period of time, you may need to take further action to remove it. Use a cloth dampened in the cleaning solution to dab the affected area. Gently scrub the area. Rinse it again with cold water. Repeat process if needed.
After you have successfully removed the gravy stain, pat the area dry using another clean cloth. Wash the garment as per usual to clean away any remaining residue. Hang the garment in a warm, dry location to air-dry.
To prevent future stains from occurring, be sure to blot up spillages immediately. As soon as you spot a stain, dab it gently using a cloth dampened in cold water. This will help reduce chance of the stain setting in and becoming more difficult to remove.
