Your first step should always be to blot the stain as soon as you notice it. Use a white paper towel or a clean, absorbent cloth to carefully dab the stain and absorb as much of the liquid as possible. Don’t rub or scour the stain, as this will push it further into the fabric.
Once the stain is blotted, you’ll need to make a cleaning solution. Start by wetting a white cloth in tepid water and adding a few drops of mild laundry detergent. Work the detergent into the cloth until you have a damp, sudsy rag.
Gently apply the solution onto the stained area and allow it to sit for five minutes or so. Once the time is up, gently press down on the stain with the cloth and then blot it dry with a paper towel.
If you still see some traces of the stain, you can try spot treating it with club soda. Apply a small amount of the soda onto the stain directly using a spray bottle or an eyedropper. Allow it to sit for five minutes, and then blot the stain with a paper towel.
The final step will depend on whether your garment is safe to machine wash. If it is, put it in the washing machine on a gentle cycle and hang it to air dry afterwards. If you can’t machine wash it, you can hand wash the garment in cold water using a mild detergent. Hang it up to air dry afterwards.
Removing gravy stains from silk faille is easy if you follow the steps above. With a little patience and know-how, you’ll be able to restore your garment to its former glory in no time!
