The first step is to blot the stained area with a clean cloth or paper towel. Do not rub or scrub the stain too hard; this can cause more damage to the fabric. Blot the area gently to absorb as much of gravy as possible.
Once you have blotted as much of the gravy as possible from fabric, you can then move on to applying a spot cleaner. There are many spot cleaners available that are specifically designed for removing tough stains from delicate fabrics like silk. Depending on the severity of the stain, you may need to leave the cleaner on the fabric for up to 30 minutes before rinsing it off.
After spot cleaner has had time to work its magic, you can then rinse off the fabric with plain water. Make sure to gently squeeze any excess moisture out of the fabric. Do not wring or twist the fabric, as this can cause it to stretch and damage the fabric.
Once you have finished rinsing spot cleaner off the fabric, you can then wash it in cold water with a mild detergent. It is important to use cold water only, as this will help preserve the color and integrity of fabric. You can then hang the fabric to air dry.
Once the fabric has completely dried, you can then inspect it for any remaining stains. If any stains remain, you can repeat same steps to try and remove them.
Gravy stains on silk dupioni can be a nuisance, but they don’t have to be permanent! With a few simple steps, you can get your fabric looking as good as new. Happy cleaning!
