What You’ll Need:

  • Liquid laundry detergent
  • Warm water
  • Soft scrub brush
  • White cloth or paper towels
  • Spot-cleaning solvent or enzyme-based product

Steps to Remove Gravy Stains from Shantung:

  1. Dab the stain with a white cloth or paper towel to absorb as much of gravy as possible. Do not rub the stain, as this will only further set it into the fabric.
  2. Mix a small amount of liquid laundry detergent with warm water, and use a soft scrub brush to gently apply mixture to the stained area. Allow the solution to soak in for 10 minutes.
  3. Rinse with cold water until all of residue is removed. If the stain is still visible, apply a spot-cleaning solvent or enzyme-based product to the fabric, and let it sit for 10-15 minutes before rinsing again.

Tips for Success:

  • Always test any cleaning product or solvent on a small, hidden area of the fabric first, to ensure it won't damage material.
  • Never mix bleach or other harsh chemicals with detergents while treating a stain, as this could cause permanent harm to the fabric.
  • Be sure to read the manufacturer's instructions on any cleaning product you use.
  • When in doubt, take your shantung fabric to a professional dry cleaner for stain removal.
