The first step is to blot up as much of the gravy as possible. Grab a tissue or paper towel and press firmly against the stain. Continue blotting until you can no longer see any traces of the gravy on the paper towel. Be careful not to rub the stain since it could make it worse.
Once you have blotted as much of the gravy as you can, you need to pretreat the stain. You can use a mixture of dish detergent and cold water to create a cleaning solution. Using a soft cloth, gently rub the stained area with solution. Then rinse area with cold water.
After you have pretreated the stain, it's time to wash the garment. Check the care instructions on clothing label to ensure you are washing it correctly. Also, make sure you are using a mild detergent and cold water when washing. If stain is still there after washing, repeat steps 2 and 3 until stain is gone.
Once the item has been washed, make sure to air dry it rather than putting it in the dryer. The heat from the dryer may set the stain in place. Hang it up to dry in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
If the gravy stain is still present after washing and air drying the item, try treating it with an enzyme detergent. These detergents are specifically designed to break down proteins, which can be effective in removing stubborn gravy stains. Follow the directions on package before washing item again.
Getting gravy stains out of seersucker clothing can be tricky, but it is possible. Follow the steps above and you'll soon be on your way to getting those pesky stains out.
