Steps for Removing Gravy Stains from Scrubs

  1. Act quickly after spill. The sooner you begin treating the stain, the better your chances are of getting it out.
  2. Wet a paper towel with cold water and blot the stain gently. Don’t rub the fabric as it can cause the stain to set.
  3. Once the area is damp, sprinkle some baking soda over the stained area to absorb the moisture.
  4. Mix a solution of equal parts white vinegar and cold water and use a cloth or sponge to apply it to the stain.
  5. Scrub the stain with a toothbrush and allow solution to sit for a few minutes.
  6. Rinse the area with cold water.
  7. If stain is still visible, apply a small amount of laundry detergent directly to the stain.
  8. Allow the detergent to sit for five to ten minutes and then rinse with cold water.
  9. Repeat the process until the stain is gone.
  10. Once the stain has been removed, hang the item to dry away from direct sunlight.

Tips for Working with Gravy Stains

  • Avoid using hot water or warm temperatures when washing as this will cause stain to set.
  • Never put items stained with gravy in the dryer as this will make it much harder to remove the stain.
  • Use a pre-wash stain remover on the area before washing if possible.
  • Always test any solution on an inconspicuous area of the garment before using.
