The first step is to identify the type of fabric your raincoat is made of so as to determine best cleaning solution. Synthetic fabrics such as nylon and polyester don't do well when exposed to certain cleaning detergents or hot water. Natural fabrics such as cotton or wool are more resistant to these liquids.
Once you have identified the fabric type, it is time to start cleaning the stain. You can either prepare a homemade cleaning solution or use a commercial one, like the ones designed for removing grease or oil stains. If you have chosen to use a homemade solution, mix one part white vinegar with two parts warm water and stir until ingredients are combined.
If you opt to use a commercial cleaner, make sure to check label beforehand and follow the instructions carefully. Once you have your chosen cleaner ready, wet a clean cloth in the solution and gently dab stain. Be sure not to rub the stain, as this will only spread it further. Repeat this process until the stain is gone.
Once you have removed the stain, you can put your raincoat in the washing machine to get rid of any leftover residue. Make sure to use a mild detergent and cold water. After washing, hang your coat out to dry. Do not use heat or direct sunlight as this could cause damage to the fabric.
You may need to repeat the steps mentioned above if the stain is still present after the initial cleaning. Alternatively, you could take it to a professional dry cleaner for more thorough cleaning. With the right technique and the appropriate cleaning solutions, you should be able to get your rain coat looking clean and spotless again.
