What You'll Need

  • Dish soap (preferably one with an enzyme cleaning agent)
  • Stain remover
  • White vinegar
  • Soft cloths (or a soft-bristled brush)

Instructions

  1. As soon as you notice the stain, use a soft cloth or a soft-bristled brush to gently wipe up any excess gravy. Don't rub it into the fabric or it may cause the stain to set.
  2. Mix one tablespoon of dish soap with two tablespoons of white vinegar in a bowl. Dip a soft cloth into the solution and gently dab the mixture onto the stain. Be sure to avoid scrubbing the fabric.
  3. Allow the mixture to sit on the stain for 15 minutes before rinsing it off with cold water.
  4. If the stain is still visible, apply a stain remover directly to the fabric. Allow it to sit for the time indicated on the packaging and rinse off with cold water.
  5. If both of these methods fail, contact a professional dry cleaner to have the stain removed.

Tips

  • Be sure to treat the stain as soon as possible, since dried gravy has a much harder time coming out.
  • Always pre-test the dish soap, stain remover, and white vinegar on an inconspicuous area of the fabric first to make sure they won't damage the material.
  • If you opt to take it to the dry cleaner, be sure to explain the type of stain so that they can properly treat it.
