When dealing with a gravy stain on poplin, it’s important to act quickly. Blot up as much of the excess gravy as possible using clean paper towels or a washcloth. Do not rub the stain, as this can cause it to spread further.
Once you have blotted up as much of the gravy as you can, you will need to pre-treat stain. To do this, mix 1 teaspoon of liquid laundry detergent with one cup of cold water. Use a sponge or cloth to apply the solution to the stain and let it sit for 15 minutes.
After 15 minutes, dip a soft brush or toothbrush into the solution and gently brush the stained area to help loosen the remaining gravy. Rinse the garment in cold water, then launder according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Be sure to check the garment before placing it in the dryer, as heat can cause the stain to set.
If you are dealing with a stubborn gravy stain on poplin, you may need to use a stronger cleaning solution. Mix 1 part white vinegar with 2 parts water, then apply to the stained area. Allow it to sit for 15 minutes, then rinse with cold water. Launder as usual.
With the right supplies and some elbow grease, you can easily remove gravy stains from poplin fabric. Just remember to act quickly and take the time to pre-treat the stain for the best results.
