Gravy and other fatty foods can be difficult to remove once they’ve dried. So as soon as you notice the stain, blot area with a damp cloth or paper towel. This will help absorb most of the liquid from the fabric.
Mix some laundry detergent with warm water and use this solution to pre-treat stained area. You can use an old toothbrush or any soft-bristle brush to rub the detergent into fabric fibers, working from the outside of stain inwards.
Rinse the affected area with clean water and then launder pongee fabric as usual. Do not put it in a dryer until you are sure that the stain is completely gone. You can check this by holding it up to the light before drying.
If the stain persists after washing, repeat steps 1-3 until the fabric looks clean. If you’re still having trouble removing the stain, try mixing baking soda with white distilled vinegar and rubbing this paste onto the fabric before washing.
