Gravy stains can be a frustrating problem when it comes to cleaning ponchos. Not only do they often contain fatty oils, but they also have various other ingredients—all of which make it very difficult to remove them with traditional cleaning methods. Luckily, there are a few simple tricks you can use to get rid of those stubborn gravy stains.
Before you start applying any cleaning solution, it's important to absorb as much of the gravy stain as possible. To do this, use a clean white cloth or paper towel and gently blot the stain. Don't rub or scrub; this will only work the stain further into fabric. Once you've blotted as much as you can, rinse the area with cold water.
Once you've removed as much of the stain as possible with a towel, it's time to apply a cleaning solution. You can use a commercial spot cleaner or mix up a homemade one using equal parts dish soap and white vinegar. Apply a liberal amount of the solution to the stain and let it sit for at least 10 minutes. This will give the solution time to break down the stain so it can be easily rinsed away.
Once the stain has been saturated with the cleaning solution, rinse the area with cold water. Make sure you rinse until all trace of solution is gone. Then, lay the poncho flat on a towel and allow it to air dry. Once the garment is completely dry, check the stain to make sure it's gone.
