If you have recently spilled gravy on your peau de soie fabric, it is important to act fast. Begin by blotting the excess gravy with a paper towel or soft cloth. Then, mix two cups of lukewarm water with a tablespoon of mild liquid detergent. Create a solution and use it to pretreat the stain – let the mixture sit for 10 minutes before wiping it away with a damp cloth and repeating the process.

Next, dip a clean cloth into a bowl of white vinegar and dab at the stain. After the solution has fully absorbed into the fabric, rinse area with cold water. For larger gravy stains, consider creating a baking soda paste and applying it to the stained area. Leave it for about 15 minutes before simply brushing away with a toothbrush.

To thoroughly wash the peau de soie item, set the washer to the “delicate” cycle and set the temperature to cold. Add half a cup of white vinegar to the load to help break up the stain. Once finished, hang the garment outside or lay flat to dry.

For tough gravy stains, it is best to take the item to a local dry cleaner where they can handle the task more efficiently. An experienced dry cleaner should understand the unique needs of peau de soie and work quickly and carefully to remove any traces of the stain.
