If you need to get gravy stains out of your garments, don’t panic—you can use everyday items found in most households to tackle the problem. Here is what you need to do:

  1. Start by gently flicking away any excess gravy with a spoon.
  2. Soak a paper towel or cotton cloth in cold water and dab at the stained area. Don’t rub too hard because this may spread the stain further.
  3. Mix an equal amount of white vinegar and liquid dish detergent to make a cleaning solution. If the stained area is really stubborn, add a few drops of ammonia.
  4. Blot the stain with your cleaning solution and then rinse with cold water. If the stain’s still there, repeat the process until it’s gone.

After you’ve removed the gravy stain, it is important to launder garment according to instructions on the label. This will help avoid setting the stain and ensuring a longer lasting clean. Hang your garment in the open air to dry, or lay it flat on a towel—but never put it into the dryer.

Using these steps, you should be able to keep your favorite outerwear looking great and free of gravy stains. Who said you can’t have your cake and eat it, too?
