If you've allowed the gravy stain to dry, the first trick is to use an old toothbrush or soft cloth to scrub the affected area with warm water and a mild soap. This will help to gently remove the stain without damaging the fibers of the macramé. Repeat this process as necessary until the stain is gone.
If the gravy stain is still wet, use a damp sponge or cloth to blot the affected area until most of the moisture has been removed. Next, mix a few drops of liquid detergent with warm water and use the sponge to gently scrub the stain. Rinse thoroughly afterwards and allow the material to air dry.
Mix a solution of one part rubbing alcohol and two parts water and use a soft cloth to dab at stain. Do not rub or scrub aggressively. Rinse the alcohol solution off with cold water and repeat process, if necessary. Be sure to dry area thoroughly afterwards.
White vinegar can also be used to tackle tough gravy stains on macramé. Dilute a quarter-cup of white vinegar with one-quarter cup of cold water and soak a cloth in the solution. Gently dab the stained area. Let the area dry and then rinse thoroughly with cold water.
Hydrogen peroxide can be used to brighten and lighten fabric on macramé pieces. Use a cotton ball to apply a small amount of hydrogen peroxide solution to the stained area. Let fabric sit for 15 minutes and then rinse again with cold water. Repeat if needed.
Dish soap is a great tool for tackling tough stains on macramé. Mix 1 part dish soap with 4 parts hot water and apply a small amount to a cloth. Gently scrub the gravy stain in a circular motion. Rinse afterwards with cold water and let the material air dry.
If all else fails, it's time to call for professional help. Reach out to a local dry cleaner that specializes in delicate materials and they should be able to help you get rid of the stain. Be sure to inform them of type of fabric and how long the stain has been on macramé piece.
