Gravy stains are among the most stubborn types of food stains. And when they make their way onto precious kitchen utensils like plates, bowls and cutlery, it can be a cause for distress. But don’t worry, there are several ways to get your utensils looking as good as new again.
Mix a tablespoon of bicarbonate of soda with a litre of hot water. Submerge your stained utensils in the mixture and let them soak for at least 2 hours (longer if needed). Remove and rinse with cold water. This technique is also great for cleaning other kinds of dinnerware too.
Dilute two parts of white vinegar with one part of water. Apply a generous amount of the mixture directly onto the stain and rub gently. You may need to use a soft sponge or cloth to really get into the nooks and crannies. Rinse the utensil off with cold tap water once done.
If all else fails, you can always scrub the affected areas with a dish soap. Make sure to apply some elbow grease to get rid of the grease in the gravy. Once the stain is gone, rise the utensil thoroughly with cold water.
If your utensil is dishwasher-safe, pop it in with your regular wash cycle. This should take care of majority of the stains in no time. However, if the stain persists after a wash, you may have to resort to one of the other methods listed above.
Gravy stains may seem impossible to remove, but luckily there are a few simple methods you can use to get your kitchen utensils looking good as new. Whether you opt for soaking, spot cleaning or just chucking it in the dishwasher, you should be able to get rid of those pesky stain in no time.
