When it comes to gravy stains, the best approach is to attack spot as quickly as possible and use a stain remover specifically formulated for fabrics like silk or wool. To begin, lightly rub the area with a paper towel or cloth to remove any excess gravy. Next, dampen an absorbent towel with cold water and dab the stain until it has been lifted out. Blot area with a dry cloth and repeat if necessary.
If you're dealing with a stubborn gravy stain, use a mild detergent such as Woolite or a gentle dishwashing liquid. Mix a teaspoon of detergent in one cup of cold water and apply it to the stain. Gently rub the spot with a soft bristled brush or cloth and then rinse the area with clean cold water. Repeat until gravy stain is completely removed.
If you’re still seeing evidence of the stain, make a paste of one part baking soda and two parts water and apply it to the affected area. Allow the mixture to sit on spot for 15 minutes and then rinse it off with cool water. If any of the stain residue remains, use a wet vacuum or a wet/dry shop vac to suction the remaining gravy out.
To protect your Kate Spade items from future gravy stains, make sure to pretreat fabric before wearing with a stain protectant such as Scotchguard. This can help repel liquids and oils and will make cleanup much easier.
