What You'll Need:

  • Detergent
  • Old toothbrush
  • Hydrogen peroxide
  • Warm water
  • Rags

Step 1: Pre-Treat Stains

Before attempting to remove the gravy stain, pre-treat it with detergent and an old toothbrush. Use a circular motion to work the detergent into the fibers of fabric. Leave the detergent to sit for five minutes, or longer if necessary, to break down the grease in the gravy.

Step 2: Wash in Warm Water

Once the pre-treatment has had time to work, fill a sink with warm water and add a few drops of detergent. Soak the flip flops in the water for 10 minutes, then use the toothbrush to scrub stained areas and work the detergent into the fabric.

Step 3: Apply Hydrogen Peroxide

If the gravy stains are still present after washing, apply hydrogen peroxide directly to the stained area. Allow the hydrogen peroxide to sit for five minutes before rinsing off with water. Then, launder flip flops as usual.

Step 4: Let Dry Completely

When the flip flops are clean and free from gravy stains, lay them flat on a towel and let them air dry completely before wearing.

Tips and Tricks

  • Always pretreat the stain before washing the fabric.
  • Use a gentle detergent and lukewarm water.
  • Do not put flip flips in the dryer; instead, allow them to air dry.
