What You'll Need

  • Mild liquid detergent
  • Hot water
  • Clean white cloths or towels
  • A spoon
  • Oxygen bleach
  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • Windex glass cleaner with ammonia

Method 1: Detergent & Hot Water

  1. Scrape off any excess gravy using a spoon.
  2. Soak the stain in hot water for about 10 minutes.
  3. Apply a dab of mild liquid detergent onto the stain and scrub gently with a clean white cloth or towel.
  4. Rinse off the detergent with hot water.
  5. Repeat steps 2-4 until the stain has been completely removed.
  6. Lay the flannel flat and allow it to air dry.

Method 2: Oxygen Bleach & Hot Water

  1. Mix one tablespoon of oxygen bleach with two cups of hot water and stir until it's dissolved.
  2. Soak the stain in this solution for 30 minutes.
  3. Rinse off the solution with hot water.
  4. Lay the flannel flat and allow it to air dry.

Method 3: White Vinegar & Baking Soda

  1. Sprinkle a generous amount of baking soda on the stain.
  2. Pour white vinegar onto the baking soda until the stain is fully saturated.
  3. Allow the mixture to sit for 30 minutes.
  4. Rub the stain gently with a clean white cloth or towel to remove the baking soda.
  5. Lay the flannel flat and allow it to air dry.

Method 4: Windex Glass Cleaner with Ammonia

  1. Apply a liberal amount of Windex glass cleaner with ammonia onto stain.
  2. Rub stain gently with a clean white cloth or towel.
  3. Rinse off the cleaner with hot water.
  4. Lay flannel flat and allow it to air dry.

Tips for Cleaning Gravy Stains

  • Always scrape off any excess gravy before attempting to clean it off.
  • Be sure to test any of methods listed above on an inconspicuous spot on the flannel before trying it on stain.
  • When using an oxygen bleach solution, be sure to wear rubber gloves as the solution can cause irritation to skin.
  • Once stain is gone, it is important to run clothing through a regular washing cycle to ensure all the cleaning agents are rinsed out.
